Solder Pins 

Heat sinks can be mounted utilizing wave soldering with the addition of solderable roll pins. Roll pins are available with stand-off shoulders in different heights.

Shur-Lock Tabs

The rounded and bifurcated tip of the Shur-Lock solderable tab easily snaps into any 0.093 in (2.36 mm) diameter Printed Circuit Board (PCB) hole.

When installed, the spring action of the Shur-Lock tab prevents the heat sink from slipping out of the hole as well as aligning the heat sink during the soldering process.

The tip extension of the Shur-Lock tab protrudes less than 0.060 inch beyond the back of a standard 0.0625 in (1.58 mm) PCB.

Solderable Mounting Tabs

Solderable mounting tabs are tin-plated spring steel tabs permanently locked onto the heat sink to provide wave solderability. The solderable tabs are mounted on the heat sink after anodizing, thus eliminating any special coating or handling.

Solderable Staked on Tabs

Solderable stake on tabs are permanently assembled onto heat sinks for solder mounting into PCBs. These factory applied tabs are available in a variety of lengths, widths, and thickness, for both vertical and horizontal mountings. Additional options include: step tabs, which keep the heat sink elevated above the board, and tabs with a triangular base for extra stability.

When ordering tabs, use the 9th and 10th position of the part number to indicate the desired tab.

 

Wave-On-Mounts

Solderable Wave-On-Mounts can be factory installed to practically every board-mountable heat sink and flat sided extrusion. The female threaded through holes enable preassembly to the semiconductor or heat sink using machine screws. This allows the heat sink and semiconductor package assembly to be treated as a single unit when fitted in the PCB through holes for wave soldering.

Tape

Attachment tapes adhere heat sinks to a heat source while offering good thermal characteristics. They are quick and easy to apply and require no curing time. These tapes can be electrically conductive or isolating and need no mechanical support to provide thermal or physical contact between the device and heat sink. Tapes are ideal for adding heat sinks after you have spun your board as using tape does not require a board change for any additional mounting hardware.

Pre-applied attachment tape is available with Aavid heat sinks to cut down on assembly time and costs. Please contact us for additional information on custom cut sizes or for a quote on pre-applied attachment tape.

Thermal Clips

Factory applied thermal clips eliminate the need to use screws and nuts in assembling the heat sink and transistor. Transistors slip into place for simple assembly. Locking clips have an internal tab to secure the transistor permanently in place. Thermal clips are available in a variety of configurations.

Clinch nuts

Clinch nuts are threaded nuts that are permanently pressed into a heat sink this allows transistors to be mounted to the heat sink with a single screw mount. Clinch nuts come in a variety of English and Metric threads; CNE designates an English thread, and CNM designates a Metric thread.

Female and Male Mounts

Semiconductor Mounts secure the heat sinks to semiconductors via machine screws or nuts. When used with a self-feeding screw driver it is up to 10 times faster than fastening with standard nuts and bolts. They are used with most JEDEC case sizes, factory installed.

Kool Clips

These one piece stainless steel clips eliminate the need for screws, lock washers and nuts in the assembly process, which reduces assembly time and cost. Each Kool-Clip corresponds to a particular heat sink or family of heat sinks. These can be purchased separately or found in the 11th and 12th position when building an Aavid 13 digit part number. Solderable Studs

Solderable studs are permanently swaged into the heat sink for quick preassembly with the transistor. The mounting holes of the device are placed over the stud(s) and secured using a lock washer and nut. The heat sink transistor assembly can then be placed into plated through holes of the PCB utilizing the locating features of the solderable studs.

To specify the number of solderable studs required in some models of legacy part numbers (i.e., 6060, 6061, 6072, and 6080), add the number of studs after the solderable stud suffix as follows: 6072B-SE3/1 for one stud and 6072B-SE3/2 for two studs.

SE6 stud has nominal standoff of ±.25mm (0.010”) and is considered a flush mount. *Dimension and tolerance apply to stud only, not spacing between heat sink and PCB.

The heat sink transistor assembly can then be placed into plated through holes of the PCB utilizing the locating features of the solderable nuts. Solderable nuts feature a closed end that prevents solder from wicking into threads and trapping contaminants or flux.

To specify the number of solderable nuts required in some models of legacy part numbers (i.e., 6054, 6072 and 6080), add the number of nuts after the solderable nut suffix, for example, 6072B-SNE1/ 1 for one nut and 6072B-SNE1/2 for two nuts.
